iPhone 6 and iOIS 10 - erroneous battery level indication?

Had the same issues with over heating, accelerated battery usage, etc and applied the recommended fixes to good effect. However, my battery will indicate some percentage remaining, then suddenly show 20% or less remaining. Plugging in the charger causes the percentage remaining to immediately change back to the previous (normal) amount. If I then immediately unplug the charger it stays at the previous (normal) percent remaining. What's causing that?

The battery percentage is just an estimate. It is not the actual percent left- just how much the phone thinks is left. There may be something faulty in the software, or hardware. Try restarting your phone. To do this hold the home button at the same time as the sleep/wake button for around 10 secs. This may be an operating system error. I have experienced these in the past, especially in iOS 10. Probably iOS 10. Are you using a third party charger?

I've charged it both ways since the iOS 10 update: powered on and off. Hasn't seemed to change this behavior. I just turn it off at night while plugged into the charger to keep from being interrupted with email, texts or other alerts (audible or vibration). My phone is on at least 16 hours a day so backing up to iCloud really hasn't been an issue.

I just turned off the "reduce motion" on the accessibility option to see how this affects things.

To back up to iCloud, your phone has to be plugged in, connected to WiFi and have the screen locked. If that's happening during those 16 hours a day, great. If not, you should really consider leaving your phone powered on at night.

I do not have Reduce Motion enabled and am not seeing this problem on my iPhone 6.
